Celebrating Dad – Have Dad become king of the BBQ, thanks to Kitchenware Direct

Spring is only around the corner, I can feel it! There are the occasional Spring Breezes and the sun is lasting just a little longer in the afternoons and I can’t wait for it all to be in full swing! Spring and Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors in Queensland and one way we love spending an afternoon/evening is enjoying a BBQ. The smell of other people’s BBQ’s wafting though the air is enough to make you drool and ensure you make good use of your own BBQ.

Sparky has always been the main person to cook on the BBQ. Not only is it a great excuse for me to not have to cook the meat in the Frypan and because the food tastes great but what man doesn’t love standing around the BBQ, with a drink in hand having a chin-wag!

Sine the BBQ is something that nearly all men seem to be able to  master and enjoy using, anything to do with the BBQ for a Father’s Day Gift is a no brainer to me. There are loads of different BBQ accessories to choose from in shops and choosing something that he will love using, can be quite daunting! With this in mind, Kitchenware Direct offered Sparky a few items from there large BBQ range to test out and give a man’s opinion on for other Father’s/Dad’s/Partner’s this Father’s Day.

By far the most favourite item that Sparky tried was the Hark BBQ Sheet. He was very skeptical at first and couldn’t see how the sheet could possibly work without melting or not transferring the heat properly. Well after the first use, Sparky was a complete convert, he loved it! The BBQ Sheet is quite large and fit our BBQ plate easily. After following the simple instructions to have it ready to use, Sparkly put it on the plate and got to cooking. We cooked Chicken Kebabs as the first meal and it worked fantastic! We didn’t need to add oil, the kebabs didn’t stick to the sheet, like they normally do on the plate, and they cooked perfectly. It was also really easy to clean up after it cooled down and not having a messy plate to clean up made Sparky’s day! I can highly recommend the Hark BBQ Sheet as a gift, it is $17.95 well spent!

While cooking Sparky also tried out the Maverick 3 piece set which includes, a flipper, a fork and a pair of tongs. The set is designed for barbecuing so it is quite large in size. The size helps keep hands clear of any heat or flames and the utensils are certainly big enough for managing a sizable steak. They all have smooth wooden handles with the addition of leather straps on the flipper and fork so you can hang them on the side of the BBQ if you want (although we didn’t, as that is the just asking Miss S to grab them!)

They are also made out of good quality stainless steel and have a good finish. However, as they are made from Stainless Steel and the loop at the end of tongs is also, Sparky did find the tongs to be a little stiff to use. Although they were a little stiff, they still handled turning the food well.

The set comes in a nice quality zip up nylon bag for storage and for the amazing on sale price of $19.95, it is a bargain for a Father’s Day Gift.

Lastly, when it was time to enjoy the kebabs, Sparky got to try out the Taste Wooden BBQ Caddy. Fitting all the essentials like cutlery and the obligatory Tomato Sauce, it was perfect for the table. The finish of the caddy is beautiful and looks lovely on the table. It makes it really easy to carry lots to the table at once and makes it easy to find what you need.

The sauces fit easily in the large section and there is loads of room for cutlery. The handle does move from side to side making it easy to get items in/out, but this can also cause it to lean to one side as the sauces weigh more. Although nothing fell out and I don’t think it is a big problem, with the simple addition of a screw to join the handle and main section together, this could be easily fixed.

The Taste Wooden BBQ Caddy is make beautifully and looks beautiful too. I can guarantee Mum will love it as well and it would be perfect as a gift. It could be filled with all of the recipients favourite sauces and condiments for presentation. For the on sale price of $32.95 it excellent value and there is a matching Napkin Holder that I am eying off to make the perfect set.
